5.Afterthoughts
Kuan-ting He: We, the Amazing Shengjiang Team, explained the Shenjiang culture to the third-grade students today. We were very nervous in the beginning. Pin-yu introduced the team name first and then the topic. The team members introduced themselves. Then, Shun-wei and I got onto the platform. We roughly explained the types and roles of Shenjiang. To be honest, it was a little difficult for Shun-wei and me. I didn’t know if they understood or not. After talking for about 20 minutes, Teacher A-gui reminded us to make an ending. When we returned backstage, Shun-wei gave a sigh of relief because our turn was finally over. Soon, the director of Academic Affairs asked us to go back on stage to give three questions for prizes. I only asked one question but passed the other two to Shun-wei because I was too nervous. When returning backstage, Shun-wei kept on complaining about it. The experience was very valuable. I hope I will have opportunities like it more often.
Pin-yu Wu: This morning, after I got ready, I ran to the school quad right away. When the promotion started, I, a very nervous person, was assigned to introduce the team members, topic, and team name. I was very nervous yet excited. I was nervous about being on stage, but excited for being able to give a speech to all third-graders and practice talking on stage at the same time. When I went up to the stage, I saw hundreds of eyes staring at me, so I started to shake unconsciously. Finally, I did my job and ran backstage right away. I was relieved. I stood there and watched Kuan-ting and Shun-wei talk attentively. I admired them very much; whether doing introductions or interacting with students, they did well. The part I admired most was that they gave hints or helped continue the speech when the other person forgot their lines. Everyone should admire partners who can help each during such urgent moments. After their introduction, I learned what cooperation really was. I hope that by learning from teachers and classmates, I can be like Kuan-ting and Shun-wei and bravely stand on stage in the future.
Shun-wei Huang: Today, Kuan-ting and I cleaned up the classroom quickly, and then went to the school quad to meet the others. After we got to the school quad, Kuan-ting and I started to practice. It was important to practice the procedure and content we wanted to introduce. I was getting more and more nervous as time went by, since this was my first time being on stage for a morning announcements. When I got on stage, I was extremely scared, but I got calmer as I talked. 15 minutes passed quickly. The director came to us and asked us to make an ending. Ending! I was wide-awake as if someone just poured cold water on me and said, “Kuan-ting, you make an ending.” Even though we did not do very well today, we tried our best. Maybe we did not have enough experience, and there were too many people staring at us; that’s why we were frightened. That’s all right though. It was only the first time. We just need to work harder, and we’ll be better next time.

Asking questions to give prizes.

We bravely stood on the stage to explain … it was scary.

Ming-hsien Hsu: Today, the teacher asked us to come to the school quad to get jobs for the morning announcements promotion. When the teacher said that Shun-wei and Kuan-ting were assigned to speak on stage, I felt so fortunate that only they needed to talk on stage. We only needed to listen on the side, and hold the posters. The teacher had told us, “You just need to introduce yourselves and leave the rest to Shun-wei and Kuan-ting.” It was time to go on stage after the teacher had said that. When I introduced myself, I was very nervous and afraid that I forgot to say some things. After I finished, I passed the microphone to Po-hung Wang. After everyone gave an introduction, we moved aside to listen to Shun-wei and Kuan-ting’s speech. I was so shocked when they were making their speech. I didn’t expect them to talk so smoothly. It sounded like they memorized everything. They had books in their hands, in case they forgot something. After they finished and had to ask questions for prizes, they suddenly forgot their words. Then they quickly remembered what questions to ask about their speech. I felt the questions were simple; anyone who listened to the speech would know the right answers. I believe that the promotion in this morning announcements was very successful since Shun-wei and Kuan-ting have memorized everything perfectly. I believe that they practiced a lot to be able to achieve this great result.
Yuang-ting Tseng: After the previous classroom promotion, we were going to promote Shenjiang culture during the morning announcements. This time, Shun-wei and Kuan-ting were responsible for the main speech. I felt relieved when I heard about this assignment. I did not want the incident that happened in the 19th class of the 5th graders to repeat again in the morning announcements. After all, this speech was much more serious than the classroom promotion. I was afraid that we would do poorly. First, the Cyberfair project members gave introductions. Then, Shun-wei and Kuan-ting started to give their speech. I hope that after this morning announcements promotion, everyone will understand Shenjiang culture better.
Po-hung Wang: Today we wanted to promote Luzhou Shenjing culture in front of all the teachers and students. I was quite nervous in the beginning since we did poorly in the promotion of class 519. I was too afraid to go on stage, but this was nothing I could change. I had no choice but to go on stage. On the stage, we assigned Shun-wei and Kuan-ting from class 512 to promote, but the others still needed to introduce themselves. After introducing ourselves, we moved aside to seriously listen to their speech. They made a very fluent speech and did not miss any part. After the speech, the director asked them to go back on stage again to ask questions for prizes, but they could not think of any and were frozen on stage. We should practice more on-the-spot situations to avoid something like this.
