The letter cylinder for pigeon post can hold letters, and is secured to the feet of the pigeon. The bamboo letter cylinder would protect the letter from water and dirt. Most importantly, it would prevent others from reading classified information.

..Project Overview

An artifact from an unknown era, made using stone, with a length of 3 m, a width of 2 m and a height of 2 m. The Axe of Conquest is a slab of stone tipped with an axe. The origin comes from the legend of splitting the mountain to rescue one's mother. In the story of Baolian Lantern, Third Holy Goddess of the Heavenly Palace fell in love with a mortal scholar Liu Yanchang. For the sake of love, she ignored the opposition from Yang Jian, the Erlang God, eloping away to the mortal realms to meet with Liu Yanchang while secreting away the Baolian Lantern. A child, Chenxiang, was the result of their love. Yang Jian abducted Chenxiang in order to safeguard the Rule of Heavens, and imprisoned Third Holy Goddess under a mountain. Chenxiang would overcome every difficulty, and use a magical axe to split Hua Mountain to rescue his mother so that they may be reunited. The axe was left embedded in the stone. Originally, the rock was named "Splitting the Mountains to Rescue One's Mother", but later it was renamed as the Axe of Conquest.

The rickshaw was made after 1869, and was said to be invented by the American missionary to Japan, Jonathan Scobie, in 1869. Early on, only a few people used the device, but it gradually grew to become an important mode of transport in major cities of Japan. In Shanghai, due to the rule that all public rickshaws must be painted yellow, it was also known as a yellow cab.

This is a porcelain work made during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, representing the Huadan (lead female role) of Chinese folk opera. Notice that the hair is the bottle cap. These designs are rather rare as most snuff bottles are designed as bottles instead of human forms which were more difficult to make. The content volume is also smaller.

This is an ivory work made during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. Such artifacts are considered extremely intricate and rare in China. There are 52 layers in the orb, and each layer is completely movable. The original craftsman has been lost to history.

This is a work of ivory made during the Qing dynasty. All these three objects represent that people should be “clean and pure” in their undertakings. The ivory was carved first before coloring was applied. The craftsmanship was intricate, and the color brilliant.
