Interview Luzhou City Cleaning Squad

In order to gather the data needed to make the website, we arranged for four interviews with the Cleaning Squad using the free time on Wednesday afternoon. The Cleaning Squad is located on the sixth floor of the Luzhou District Office. We carried out the interview in a clean meeting room where there were two large tables, and our teachers asked us to sit down for seats.

At the first interview, we were divided into two groups, namely the Mobile Group and the Ground Group. The atmosphere was a bit nervous because the members of the Cleaning Squad were new faces. We could not help being nervous at the thought of carrying out the face-to-face interviews with them. They were very warm, and they gave beverages to us to drink.

In order to prevent us from being too nervous, they kept telling us to treat the interview as chat. One of the things that made me most impressed was what the members of the Ground Group said: “I remember I was cleaning the sidewalk on yesterday, where there were a lot of cigarette butts on the ground. When I was sweeping near the park, I went to the toilet. As a result, the entire dustpan was burnt, because there was a cigarette butt on the ground which had not been completely extinguished, and it was directly swept into the dustpan by me. This is really not good, because it may cause troubles to us if you seek convenience. If you are us, will you hope such a thing happens?” After hearing it, I wondered that how there would be some people like this? I hope we can change this problem, and do not make any trouble to the members of the Ground Group.

During the second interview, we went to clean the ditch actually. At that time, those responsible for leading us to experience the ditch clearance told us: “The rubbish in the ditch you have seen is very little this time, and that is the result of hard work by my colleagues. I hope you can understand our hard work, and do not litter rubbish into the ditches when passing by them every day, so that the ditches will not be blocked and it will not lead to waterflooding in the event of typhoon.” I have silently remembered his words in mind, and I hope people will not litter rubbish into the ditch any more. After the ditch had been cleaned we go straight to the district office to interview the inspection team and ditch team. Although not so nervous as the first interview, but we were still a little restrained. They shared a lot of interesting things during their work with us, together with the humorous way of speaking, so that those slight tension dissolved out in the jokes.

During our third interview with the resource recovery team, kitchen waste team and rubbish team, we had no previous tension and asked them questions naturally. They were very talkative, so we chatted freely. The whole process was very enjoyable, and it was also the longest interview. Members of the resource recovery team said: “Young people can change their quality. When you talk to young people, they will reply that they have got it, and you will find they really do as you have said after a few days.” Hearing these words and looking at her eyes, I have some hope for the improvement of people’s quality, and I believe we can be better if we work harder.

We finally interviewed the leader of the Cleaning Squad with all students. The leader had only limited time due to his work, so the time spent on the interview was greatly reduced. Fortunately, we were very confident to ask the leader on the basis of the previous interviews. Some poised classmates even asked questions not written on the plan. Therefore, this interview could be considered as the most successful one. The leader of the Cleaning Squad said: “I hope the streets in Taiwan will be as clean and tidy as Singapore in the future.” I cannot help but hope that all the people can work together with the cleaning crew to make their efforts for Taiwan. The interview with the leader of the Cleaning Squad was finished perfectly in laughter.

At each interview, they often asked us whether the content they were talking about was too serious so as to prevent them from being too boring. Such considerate behaviors let us feel good and warm. Thanks to the cleaning crew for accepting our interview, and thanks the full support by the leader of the Cleaning Squad, as well as Ms. Huang and sub-leader Dai who always help us to coordinate the interview time.

After experiencing these interviews, we learn about the work of the cleaning crew, as well as their bitterness unknown to others. We cannot help but come out with the idea that we cannot litter any more in the future and should practice environmental protection in daily life. I hope our city can become cleaner!
